I Am Number Four: The Lost Files: Secret Histories is a collection of three action-packed novellas that share stories the Mogadorians don’t want you to know about the inner workings of their regime as well as how they engineered the attack on Lorien. Originally published as e-novellas, now, for the first time ever, they are together in one print volume. You already know the truth about the Garde and the Mogadorian invasion, yet there is still so much to learn. The stories in Secret Histories will help you get the answers you seek, but they will not help you stop the coming war. Only the Garde can save our planet.

The second installment of The Lost Files picks up from where previous one ends and provides information on characters that appear in The Fall of Five.

The first and third stories are the continuation of Adamus’s story. I love the fact that the Mogadorians are not presented as being an evil group, though their leaders are undoubtedly bad. They are simply a nation of people who have been brainwashed into being mindless killing machines, praised for being ruthless and aggressive. At times the story is too action-packed and is a little lacking in plot, but I still love Adam’s inner struggle between what is right and what is easy.

The middle story is told from Sandor, Nine’s Cepan’s, POV and takes place on Lorien.  Sandor is surprisingly rebellious and sarcastic and I really liked his story. Even though it was no more than 150 pages, I feel like I was really able to get a sense of what Lorien was like and how their society was structured. They have normal lives, but don’t hate and fight with one another. Though there are two groups in society – the Garde and the Cepan, one is not superior over the other and they work together, balancing the other’s strengths and weaknesses. They live their lives out in happiness, except for a small group within the government who take things more seriously for they believe in the elder’s prophecy.

After only learning about the legacies the kids in the I am Number Four series developed while on Earth, it was really cool to hear about adults who had already mastered their powers.  I wonder if Four and Nine and the others will reach such a level and if so how powerful will they be? The Chimeara also played an important role and are more dangerous then I first thought.

A really fast and easy read, highly recommended for fans of I am Number Four!

Other books in the series:
